Mobile phone company invests $70 million in Sierra Leone
Celtel, a pan African mobile phone company that operates in 15 countries in Africa, and the leading mobile phone company in Sierra Leone has devised a number of strategies that will put it far ahead of its rivals.
Celtel says that they have invested $70 million in Sierra Leone and plans are underway to
invest more. The company started operating in Sierra Leone in the late 1990s, at a time when the war was still being fought.
The managing director of Celtel, Mr. Ted Setiphuri, says that Celtel has been providing effective coverage in Sierra Leone, adding that all the 12 districts in the country now have access to the company's network.
"Celtel has positioned itself to respond to the needs of the people in Sierra Leone", he said. The permanent secretary in the ministry of transport and communications, Mr. Abdul Rahman Wurie, welcomes the company’s initiatives and says that the tariff reduction marks "another milestone in the long and arduous journey of Celtel which started in the 1990s. It seems that they always take the lead, whilst others follow".
He has however assured other investors that the government will continue to provide a level playing field to all mobile phone operators in the country.
