Once again, the continental model talent search is on! Yes, I know I sound eager and over enthusiastic but believe me it is not for the reasons you might think.
When you think of prominent Black models who comes to mind? I see you scratch your head and rack up your brains - yep, there aren’t enough even to play five a side football! .There’s Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Iman and Alek Weh -that’s about it. I don’t know about you, but from my perspective there is an under representation going on here. Yes, we occasionally see some dark faces on prominent magazine covers but at the end of the day the standard aesthetic of long slippery hair, a straight small nose and blue eyes has not changed

Step in Nokia face of Africa which despite my appreciations has been running for six years; (hello? where are the past winners? I haven’t seen their pictures on any magazine covers or even on any products in the ‘ethnic’ section of my local Tesco, Asda or Sainsburys.
In this years competition, any young woman from sub Saharan Africa (that applies to all the fine sisters in the U.K with dual nationalities!) who meets the entry requirements* is eligible to enter by simply attending a casting session between 1st March and 22nd April in any one of the host cities –

The prize is quite lucrative-A modelling contract for Storm Model Management worth $125,000 USD or approximately £100,000 – of course minus 10 % commission if you live in the U.K and read it here first, thank you very much!
*entry requirements:
• Age: 16-24
• Height: 1.74m+
• Maximum hip measurement of 36 inches
• No current contract with modelling agencies
