LADYSMITH Black Mambazo represents the traditional culture of South Africa and is regarded as the country’s cultural emissary at home and around the world. After many years of continued success in their exceptional genre, the group stands out as Africa’s best acapella ensemble ever.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s current CD, “Long Walk To Freedom”, received two Grammy Award nominations in 2007. One nomination was in the category of Best Contemporary World Music CD and the other for Best Surround Sound Production.
These two added to previous ten to mark tweve nominations that Ladysmith Black Mambazo has received over the years. They have been awarded the Grammy Award twice. The first award was received in 1987 for their album “Shaka Zulu.” The second was in 2005 for their CD “Raise Your Spirit Higher.”
Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s UK Tour 2007 began on the 8th of November with an opening show at Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. On the 9th of November the group performed at Warwick Arts Center in Coventry and they were staged on November 10 at Northampton’s Royal and Derngate Theartre.
The show moved to Pavilion Theartre in Rhyl on November 11 while Aberystwyth‘ s Arts Centre staged Ladysmith Black Mambazo on the 12th of November. 14th was Grand Theatre in Swansea while Leeds Town Hall staged the 15th November show. The tour which ran through Middlesbrough, Preston, Wolverhampton and Gateshead ended on the 21st of November in Derby.
