AngloGold Ashanti warned of potential power shortage

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has advised the Ghanaian company, AngloGold Ashanti that the company will be required to reduce its electrical power consumption, due largely to water shortages impacting on the VRA's power generating facilities.

AngloGold Ashanti, as part of the local Chamber of Mines, is meeting with the VRA to examine the means of addressing potential disruptions to their power supply. It is not clear at this time what the consequences of a power shortage will be for the company's operations in Ghana.

This will all depend on the outcome of discussions with the VRA, and on any mitigating circumstances which might be taken to conserve the general output of power.

It is expected that the company will make a statement on the potential impacts at Obuasi, Iduapriem and Bibiani once these discussions have been concluded.
