UNIVERSITY of Leicester Chaplain Amos Kasibante led a group of the Africa Student Forum (Uhuru) at the University of Leicester on a visit to Whetstone Pastures Farm.
Situated eight miles from the University, the farm belongs to a couple Anthony and Sandra Herbert and is a popular site for students and other groups around Leicester that want to learn about farming, take part in a social, pick strawberries or buy homemade jams, soap, and other items.
At another level the Herberts started the project Send-A-Cow which has transformed the lives of families, single women, widows and orphans in countries that include Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia. Their activity revolves around the values of establishing partnerships that make a positive change in people’s social and material life and Sandra, who formerly worked with BBC Leicester is active in building community and interfaith and intercultural engagement in Leicester.
Apart from having time out, the students from Leicester spent time comparing farming methods and the situation of farmers in Africa and Britain.
The Africa Student Forum currently meets at the auspicies of the Chaplaincy and brings together students who share their student experience at Leicester and issues affecting Africa.
