WEST HAM COMMUNITY FORUM JOB FAIR A WINNER

More than 200 people looking for a job or employment advice turned up to kick-start their career at the West Ham Community Forum Job Fair on Monday.
The free event was held from 2pm to 6pm at The Hub, Star Lane, Canning Town. Twenty-two-year-old Stratford resident Lola Sodeinde was among those to visit the one-stop shop for job vacancies, career advice, training course information and loans and grants guidance.
Lola, who has recently graduated with an English degree, went seeking career advice and was pleased with the information she received. “I’ve been to other careers fairs but this was different because it wasn’t intimidating and I got to talk and interact with people on a
one-to-one basis,” she said.
“I’m considering a career in writing or teaching and now have more knowledge to help me make a decision.” As well as job information, there were also free health checks, refreshments and a crèche.
Chair of West Ham Community Forum Jacqui Scharschmidt was thrilled with the turnout to the fair.
She said: “This was another successful event for our forum. It was great to see so many people of all different ages taking advantage of it.”
West Ham Community Forum is one of ten forums in Newham working to make each area a safer, healthier and more interesting place to live. They are for people to have a say on and agree priorities for their community.
