NEWHAM RAISES FLAG FOR NIGERIA

Nigeria’s flag was raised at Newham Town Hall last Sunday (October 1) to mark the West African country’s National Day.
The public ceremony was attended by Mr Richard Adejola, representing the Nigerian High Commissioner, Newham’s Deputy Mayor Christine Bowden, and Dave Burbage, Chief Executive of the council. Newham councillors present included Unmesh Desai, Joy Laguda, Simeon Ademolake, Omana Gangadharan, Sukhdev Singh Marway, Winston Vaughan, Graham Lane and Marie Collier.
Representatives from Newham’s Nigerian community attended the flag raising, and received praise for their contribution to the borough. Deputy Mayor Christine Bowden said: “There is a significant Nigerian population in Newham, from business owners to teachers. Their hard work makes a great contribution to the welfare and prosperity of the area.”
