Paul Wolfowitz, President of the World Bank, has stated that Ghana has the potential of becoming the leading economic giant in Africa if the present pace of development is maintained. Speaking during a brief stop over in Accra after a seven nation Africa tour, he said that while he would have loved to visit Ghana on an official basis, other countries needed more guidance to run their economies.
Gobian Nankanin, World Bank (WB) Vice President in Charge of the Africa Region, also commended Ghana's performance, which has made the country stand out from the rest. He said if Ghana's present 8% growth rate was maintained the country could reach middle income status by 2015 with a little hard work. |
Ghana’s Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, and Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, Minister of Economic Planning and top government officials met Mr. Wolfowitz at the Airport.
