DANGEROUS JUMP LEAD WITHDRAWN
FROM SALE

A potentially dangerous car jump lead has been withdrawn from sale nationally following a visit to the Stratford Poundland store by Newham Council’s trading standards officers.
The officers discovered the lead, which costs £1 and are labelled “Heavy Duty Booster Cables”, with the item number 26864 and barcode 5025066268640.
The cable gives the appearance of being heavy duty but following tests by the council officers, it was found to only have a 3 amp wire in the centre.
The whole stock was seized from the store and, on the council’s advice, the company has instigated a national product recall.

Councillor Andrew Baikie, Cabinet member for Public Protection, said: “It is thanks to the sharp-eyed trading standards officers that this product has been withdrawn from sale.

“If used, this particular jump lead could quickly overheat, melt and possibly catch fire.
“It is essential that anyone who has bought this product stops using it immediately and returns it to their local store as soon possible.”

Customers can telephone Poundlands’ free customer services number 0800 731 5622 if they have any queries or concerns. Lines are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Members of the public are warned that the same leads have also been spotted on sale on a web-based auction.

Anyone who has any concerns about this or any other product or service can contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 or visit www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
