African Echo wins RECON community leadership award

R E C O N C I L I AT I O N International presented its annual Community Leaders Award in London United Kingdom on 30 December 2007. The event was linked with the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade (1807 – 2007) to highlight those brave individuals of African and non-African descent who helped to bring about the Abolition of the Atlantic Slave Trade over 200 years ago, such as Harriet Tubman,Sojourner Truth,Frederick Douglass, Olaudah Equiano and Nana Maroon – these people have often remained unrecognised for their important efforts and contribution in bringing about the demise of this inhumane and criminal activity, said Bishop Kwaku Frimpong-Manson the Host and Founder of RECON AWARDS.

The RECON
Community Leaders Awards have been raising the profile of the Unsung Heroes in our communities since 2004. “We have recognised their contribution and their courage in sticking their necks out in order to help and support those around them who may not be strong enough to discover their own voices without them” Bishop Frimpong-Manson added.

Recipients of the award have included: Prof. Felix Konotey-Ahulu, Kwame Kwei-Armah, Archbishop John Setamu, Lennox Lewis, Psalm Ajetefio alias TT, African Echo among others.
