MANY HAPPY RETURNS,
MUM AT 60!
 |
On the 19th of April, 1946, our beloved Mother, Grace Ukala, was born in a little village, Mbiri, in Delta State, Nigeria. |
Through thick and thin, she has struggled to achieve a lot and she gives us the zeal to be successful in life. Some of our Mother’s achievements include the following: An Honours degree in English in June 1970 from Nigeria’s Premier University, University of Ibadan, a distinction in her Masters Degree in Education and a distinction in her Ph.D degree, recently obtained.
A renowned teacher from 1970 – 2002, our Mother, Dr Grace Ukala, has been an invaluable role-model and lasting influence in many youngsters’ education and positive growth. She was a distinguished and very popular head teacher of Emotan College, Benin City, Nigeria, for many years; a well-beloved teacher and head of English at Geoffrey Chaucer School, and Eastlea Community School, London; and the Manager of the Learning Support Unit, Bow Boys School, also in London. Since her early retirement in 2002, Dr Ukala has set up and now runs her own successful business as the Managing Director of Goldsparkle Consulting Services Limited, in Stratford, East London. Goldsparkle is an FSA regulated Mortgage Advisory Firm. For more information on Goldsparkle, please visit:

Dr Gracy Ukala is also an award – winning novelist, having published Dizzy Angel (UPL, Nigeria, 1985), The Broken Bond (UPL, Nigeria, 2001), and most recently, Ada in London (Outskirts Press, Canada, 2005). Ada in London was launched at her birthday celebration on the 23rd of April, 2006. Every one who has read the book says “It is a fascinating story of a brave African woman, who survives the traumas in a strange land – in the most noble way possible!” Ada’s story is universal – it is a story of pain, suffering and success, easily applicable to every woman and every immigrant person! Mum, we are very proud of you. You are a huge inspiration to us all! We thank God for your life and wish you very many happy returns of the day!
With much love from all your children and well-wishers.
Signed: Miss Pamela Ehi-Osifo,
Barrister at Law, Ministry of Justice,
