VALENTINE BALL FOR GHANAIANS IN UK
Story: Nana Sifa Twum

Ghana and Chelsea midfield ‘supreme’ Michael Essien stole the show when he opened the floor with the wife of Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Mrs. Marian Osei at the Ghanaian UK valentine ball organised at the prestigious Imperial Hotel in London over the valentine weekend.

It became apparent that the Ghanaian international is as excellent on the dancing floor as he is powerful and resolute on the football field. Exhibiting exciting dancing skills, splendid foot and body movements, other guest at the event could not but to immediately join to support and congratulate Essien and the host, Mrs. Osei.

Mrs. Osei and Essien who was the guest of honour attracted a large number of the guests to the floor making it difficult for them to have more room to display more skills as they danced to good and compelling highlife tunes.

Mr. Osei himself as he sat at the high table could not help but has to join and his appearance on the dancing floor heightened the excitement, joy and fun the occasion provided.

In a brief on-stage chat with the ace Broadcaster and Events Management consultant, Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, now practising his trade in the UK for the past six years, Essien re-affirmed his commitment to play for the Black Stars, amid a large and un-ended applause from the gathering.

Most of the guests expressed sentiments such as, ‘it was really a night to remember, we need more of such events to foster the unity and oneness of Ghanaians and of course shred off some of the stress.’

The event which also saw one of the most impressive fashion shows on Ghana out side the shores of the land in recent times was primarily aimed at bringing Ghanaian spinsters and bachelors living in the UK together to have fun and be exposed to the Ghanaian ‘valentine culture’ as a day for reunion and love but not a day to promote promiscuity in society.

Unfortunately for the organisers, Wives of the Ghanaian Diplomats Association, the married couples ‘high-jacked’ the event and even dominated in attendance.

Among other things, the organisers intended to use the occasion to support the social dimension of activities undertaken by the Ghana High Commission in the UK.

‘We believe that events like this, strengthen our community, create avenues for networking, knowledge sharing about our dear country, and in some instances could create opportunities for lasting relationships.’ Mrs. Oseiin her speech earlier observed.

She called on the gathering to use the occasion as a renewal of marriage and family bonds and for lasting friendship.

Mrs. Osei also used the occasion to appeal to Ghanaian parents to ensure that they keep peaceful and enjoyable homes by showing love to all members of their families especially children they will grow and to appreciate living by love and peace.
