Ghana
Searches For 34th Coach
The
root cause of
Ghana
's
declining image in African Football has mostly been
attributed to technical inconsistency. Within the last
46 years after
Ghana
's
Independence
,
the nation has hired 33 national team coaches most of
whom were fired, others deserting the team under
bizarre circumstances.
The
most recent example is the Portuguese Mariano Barreto
who deserted the Black Stars after the
Ghana
-
Cape Verde World Cup Qualifier.
Interestingly,
with a couple of weeks to the Black Stars Crucial
World Cup Qualifier, with DR Congo in
Kinshasa
, the Ghana Football Association is struggling to name a
new coach for senior national team, the Black Stars.
The hope of the Football Association to lure Ghanaian
Born French International, Marcel Desaily into
accepting the Stars' job hit the rocks after Desaily
opted to instead play for Al -Ittihad of the UAE.
After
weeks of advertising for a new coach, 43 applicants
applied. Four of them are local coaches namely; Jim
Amoah, who led the Black Stars to the 1994 Nation's
Cup in Tunisia, Oko Aryee - the former coach of the
Black Queens, Coach Adjei Pele and Coach Bashiru.
Inside sources say, most of the applicants are
from the
UK
with the rest coming from
Germany
and
Austria
. The
football Association has painstakingly short listed 7
of the 43 for consideration. The lucky 7 will be
further pruned down to 4 whilst the deadline for the
announcement of the new Star`s coach has been set for
November 15, 2004.
