O.B.E
TELEVISION IS ONE YEAR OLD
A year ago, the channels SKY TV in the United Kingdom gave was increased by one with the introduction of Original Black Entertainment Television. (OBE)
With a year of its existence on SKY channel 223 (first on 280) OBE has, to a large extent, killed the anxiety of the ethnic minority whose TV taste is not what is on the other channels.
The founders Mr and Mrs Ampaw's vision of innovation has today reaped excellence in broadcasting.
But like proverbial Oliver Twist, the millions of viewers of OBE need some more. Some more of African programmes, some more of good quality programmes and some more of uninterrupted programmes.
This obviously calls for some more money. African Echo investigations revealed that several thousands of pounds is paid to other TV stations in Africa and the Caribbean for programmes to be broadcast on OBE. For example the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation charges nearly 10 thousand pounds for the news broadcast on the network.
These do not in any way include the high charge by SKY.
To meet this required the efforts of all and rightly so the management of OBE organised a dinner dance to raise some money for its activities in the years ahead.
OBE has chalked a milestone and we wish the channel the very best.
