The African Development Fund (ADF) has approved $51.9 million in development assistance to the cotton sector in the African states of Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali.
The ADF said that over 10 million people from the West and North African states would be supported under projects that would generate an additional 1.84 tonnes of cotton, 654,000 tonnes of maize, 240,500 tonnes of sorghum and 192,000 tonnes of millet annually.
It added that the assistance would also be channelled in such a way as to encourage regional scientific co-operation between agricultural research institutes in the four countries.
