East Thames hands over the keys to BME housing Association

EAST LONDON housing association, East Thames, is leading the way in helping to reduce London's problem of overcrowding in social housing, by building larger homes. The East Thames Group has worked with Bellway Homes to create six six-bedroom houses, as well as three and four bedroom houses and one, two and three bedroom flats as part of a £93 million, 534 unit development in East London.

It's the start of a process that East Thames hopes will encourage other housing associations to follow suit. The keys have recently been handed over to the first residents to move in to the new housing and community development in Tower Hamlets.

A total of 36 homes are now ready for occupation. The completed properties were officially handed over to LABO, a BME led housing association, which will be managing a total of 54 homes on the development.

On completion, the development will also provide essential community facilities including accommodation for GPs, community nursing teams, a dentist and pharmacy. There will also be space for a community hall, neighbourhood offices a crèche and café.

East Thames is working closely with Tower Hamlets, LABO and Newlon Housing Trust to ensure that the development helps support the regeneration of the local area.
