Ethiopia’s international investment agreements will promote local trade

Ethopia’s international investment agreements are likely to enhance local investment and trade, according to the country’s parliament.

During its 10th regular session, the House of Peoples' Representatives have referred a bill ratifying investment promotion and guarantee agreements between Ethiopia and the governments of Egypt and Finland.

The government whip in the House, Shiferaw Jarrso, said that the agreements are part of the government's effort to expand local investment.

However, the fact that equal opportunities are created for both foreign and domestic investors would avoid the investment protection provided for local investors.

A representative from the Union of Ethiopian Democratic Forces (UEDF) said quality standard and environment pollution inspections should be applied on foreign companies.
