Foreign direct investment created almost 1, 800 Jobs in Botswana
THE Botswana Export and Development Agency has said that foreign companies who invested a total of P64.1 million in Botswana over the last year have created almost 1,800 jobs for Batswana. Foreign investments have exceeded the P50 million mark which BEDIA had set for 2006, BEDIA CEO, Mmasekgoa Masire- Mwamba has said.
She expressed optimism that BEDIA will continue to receive a significant number of enquiries for investment opportunities in Botswana. BEDIA is spearheading the development of the national FDI strategy scheduled for completion sometime this year.
"This strategy will help position the country as it continues to compete for global FDI inflows. BEDIA has continued to make significant progress in its efforts to promote FDI to Botswana as well as to promote locally manufactured products to external markets.
To augment these efforts and to help position the country, a number of initiatives have been undertaken to develop various national strategies," she explained.
As part of creating awareness, attracting investment to Botswana and forging partnerships between the local and foreign investors, BEDIA undertook a number of promotional activities to new markets accompanied by representatives of the local private sector.
