Kenya’s broadband network estimated to cost Sh23 billion
Kenya Data Network has estimated its planned investment in fibre optic network to amount to Sh23 billion ($330 million). Mr Kai Wulff, the managing director said KDN, has so far invested Sh10.5 billion ($150 million) to develop the network in five major towns.
He said that the network, which seeks to enhance internet and data service provision has so far covered Mombasa, Nairobi, Voi, Kisumu and Eldoret. But he expects more towns to be integrated into the ongoing project. The development of the fiber network in the various towns has seen 1,000 workers benefit by direct employment.
The project, Wulff says, has the potential to eventually create one million jobs in related industries, notably call centres.
