Goldplat to expand its operations in Africa
Goldplat, which operates a gold and platinum group metals-recovery plant in South Africa, said that it was seeking gold mining opportunities in Africa, and had begun talks with parties in Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Mozambique, Ghana and Tanzania.
Goldplat was listed on London's Alternative Investment Market last July.
In the six months to December, it boosted revenue to £2.1 million from operations in South Africa from £1.9m a year before. Pre-tax profit was £273,763. But as funds are needed for growth, no dividend was declared.
Its East Rand recovery operation was founded in 1979. It extracts precious metals from, and disposes of mines waste material. Three years ago Goldplat bought the gold-extraction business of Gravelotte Mines. And in October it started a similar operation in Ghana. Last month it renewed a contract with AngloGold Ashanti's Obuasi mine to treat its fine carbon until March next year.
Chairman Brian Moritz said: "Goldplat's next move, towards becoming a junior mining company would not be based on green fields projects, but on buying rights to a reserve."
