Shot in the arm for agriculture in East Africa
THE German government has committed 2.8 billion euros (Sh25.4 billion) to projects aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices and biodiversity preservation in two East African countries.
Under two agreements signed recently by the Food and Agriculture Organisation, Kenya and Tanzania will benefit directly from the funds aimed at supporting food security, sustainable agriculture and natural resource management projects.
According to the FAO, the three-year project will help promote adoption of conservation agriculture practices by smallholder farmers in the two countries through an expanded network of farmer field schools and by increasing the availability of conservation agriculture equipment.
