British Gas emphasizes 'outstanding investment environment' in Tunisia

THE INVESTMENT projects of British Gas in Tunisia were the focus of discussion during a meeting between President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and BG 's chairman, Robert Wilson.

In his departure statement, Mr Wilson said he was delighted to have had the opportunity of meeting with President Ben Ali and updating him on the progress the BG Group has made on its projects in Tunisia.

The BG Chairman said his company has made commitments for capital expenditure programs of about $1.3 billion.

He added, "this is a very major investment commitment by our group in terms of extension of life of existing assets of Miskar and our joint venture project with ETAP in the development of the Hasdrubal project."

ETAP is Tunisia's stateowned petroleum company. Mr Wilson said that this investment is a reflection of British Gas' belief that Tunisia offers an outstanding investment environment. The terms of foreign investment, and the rule of law are all very clear.
