World Bank donates $40 million to Burundi government

THE WORLD BANK has just donated 40 millions dollars to the Burundi government. The donation is intended to cover a range of community and social developmental projects. The objective of the donation as defined by the World Bank, is to implement and establish a decentralized financing mechanism which will allow local governments and local communities to better service their respective population.
According to the World Bank, community projects have long since proven to generate tangible results when local governments have access to financial resources to initiate local activities. And wide ranging benefits, including employment and a better standard of living, will the local population to prosper and grow.
The project will cover the whole of Burundi, but not at the same pace. Intense support will be given to Bubanza, Cankuzo, Kirundo, Makamba, Muramvya, Muyinga, Mwaro and Ngozi, while light support will be given to the remaining 8 provinces of Bujumbura rural, Bururi, Karuzi, Gitega, Kayanza, Cibitoke, Ruyigi and
Rutana.
