Major financiers looking to invest in Rwanda

REGIONAL and international development financial institutions have expressed an interest in providing long-term capital to businesses in Rwanda. They are optimistic that investments in the country in various sectors will be supported by the market of the East African community, which Rwanda has recently become a member of.

During the Fourth Rwanda International Investment Conference, attended by 723 delegates of whom 302 were foreign, it emerged that longterm loans for local entrepreneurs will determine how far the country's investment strategy can succeed.

A statement from the Rwanda Investment and Export Promotion Agency said that there is a need to support the private sector in Rwanda in order to ensure its competitiveness in the region.

Rwanda wants the region to work towards establishing centres of excellence, and is optimistic of becoming the ICT and transit hub for East and Central Africa.
