Government seeks closer ties between Zambia and Pakistan
THERE is a strong need for Zambia and Pakistan to develop closer collaboration and promote trade and investment in the sugar and gemstone industries, President Mwanawasa has said. Receiving letters of credence from Pakistan High Commissionerdesignate to Zambia, Rifat Iqbal, Mr Mwanawasa said such collaboration would enhance development for the two countries.
He said that Zambia recognised the efforts Pakistan had made in the health and education sectors at home, and he challenged the envoy to reactivate the Joint Permanent Commission which would enable authorities from the two governments to consult on joint venture businesses.
He said that through bilateral cooperation, Pakistan had been training Zambians in various fields such as diplomacy, pharmacy, engineering, business management, agriculture and other fields, and he urged Pakistan to continue supporting Zambia and other African countries in areas such as conflict resolution, and peace building among others.
