Bank of Ghana destroys old cedi notes

THE MANAGEMENT of Bank of Ghana has begun destroying the current cedi notes which comes into it vaults. The measure is to create space at the bank's vaults for the new Ghana cedis, which will be in circulation from July 12, 2007.

Chris Apau Oppong, Ashanti regional manager of the Bank, said that over 700 billion cedis worth of bank notes had already been destroy in the Ashanti Region alone. He was speaking at the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Agricultural Development Bank public education campaign on the redenomination exercise in Kumasi.

He said that none the current bank notes that went to the bank would be returned into circulation.
