Mittal steel agreement with Liberia may be signed shortly

THE Latest report released in Monrovia, has suggested that the mineral concession agreement between the Liberian government and the world's largest steel company, Mittal Steel, for the launching of the company's operation in the country, will be signed very shortly.
The Land, Mines and Energy Minister, Eugene Shannon, in a statement to the press, disclosed that the two sides would be signing the agreement very soon. The agreement between the company and the government was previously signed during the transitional government headed by Charles Bryant, but the President Sirleaf's led government called for a review of the contract to reflect on what it called, "the national interest.
The government contended that the country should manage and control the seaports and railways on the grounds that they are state owned properties which should come under the control of the government, something that the company accepted before the agreement was concluded. The Mittal steel agreement, which is $1 billion, will provide employment to hundreds of Liberians and will assist in the reconstruction and development processes of the nation.
