EasyJet chairman gives £50,000 funding for disabled entrepreneurs awards

EASYJET boss, Stelios Haji- Ioannou, is funding an annual award for disabled entrepreneurs that will be worth £50,000. The cash award, run in conjunction with disabled charity Leonard Cheshire, will be given to the winner of the first awards which will take place next year.

Founder of easyJet and easyGroup, Haji-Ioannou said: "I know first hand how difficult it is to succeed in running your own business and to do this while being disabled is a feat which I admire and support."

Leonard Cheshire already runs a scheme to help disabled people start up and run their own business. The "Ready to Start" campaign, run with Barclays Bank, and was launched in October, provides support and training. The programme will seek to help 600 people over three years.
