THE CITY OF London Corporation, a longstanding supporter of the Red Cross, has announced an immediate grant of £25,000 to help towards an urgent £2million bid to aid 80,000 adults and 20,000 children in Gereida refugee camp, Darfur.
The City of London Corporation, which looks after and promotes the Square Mile business district around St Paul's, made the grant in response to Red Cross's appeal for cash to help its 1,500 staff in Sudan in the Horn of Africa (where, since 2003 more than four million people have been affected by the Darfur conflict across an area the size of France).
Lord Mayor John Stuttard, currently in India working to promote the UK-based financial services industry, said: "We responded swiftly to the Red Cross's appeal because its work in Darfur is to help people at the very edge of life. I hope others will join us and help the Red Cross help those who are suffering
greatly." |
