British Library wants to attract young black people with hidden entrepreneurial talents

The British Library will be following its successful event held in May by launching a series of one-to-one sessions for black British entrepreneurs, and will include “Apprentice” winner, Tim Campbell.
The advice sessions, which will be held in the newly launched Business and IP Centre, are part of BL’s strategy to make it more relevant and accessible to every section of society.
Isabel Oswell, who is Head of Marketing at BL, said: “A key part of our mission is to support all types of researchers, including academics, business people and personal researchers.”

Over the next six months during the half-day sessions, Campbell, who is keen to share his knowledge and experience with others will be inspiring and motivating aspiring black entrepreneurs as well as providing practical advice which is aimed at young individuals from 16 years upwards. He said: “I especially want to speak to young adults as this can be where the greatest creativity lies dormant.”
The advice sessions are free but users have to make an application and are given the challenge of summarising in 200 words why they feel they should be seen by a business expert.
Aside from its events and advice sessions, BL believes they should be the first point of call for anyone serious about starting a business. The Business and IP Centre has recently been converted from two reading rooms into an impressive centre fully equipped with essential business resources.
Oswell encourages individuals to make use of “the wealth of free information,” including probably the largest world collection of market research reports (currently totaling 7000), industry journals, directories and online databases on companies, patents, trademarks and designs.
