Cutting edge technology in the heart of the inner city

Enterprise Data Systems (UK) Ltd (EDS), an award winning Midlands based computer company, has teamed up with The Drum, an arts centre in Aston Birmingham, to pilot a hotspot in The Drum's Café Bar.

Andy Bailey, the managing director of EDS explain that 'a hotspot is an area in which anyone with a laptop or PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) with wire-less capabilities can log onto the internet without using a phone or modem'.

People can go to The Drum's Café Bar with their laptops or PDAs and log on and surf the internet whilst having a drink, a snack, or a meeting. People on the move can stop off and contact their offices or log on to their company's intranets to send or receive data, check their emails etc.

Paul Udenze, Chief Executive of The Drum said: 'When EDS came to us with the proposal of setting up a hotspot, I immediately saw the value of being able to provide internet access to local artists, customers and the community at large'.

The Drum offers this service at no extra cost to their customers. Andy Bailey said that because of the low costs of setting up a hotspot it makes sense to offer the service free of charge. When an organisation like The Drum gives customers using its services added value, it creates loyal customers who will use the services time and time again.
