Air Botswana workers in dark over privatization issue

AIR BOTSWANA employees have condemned the controversial privatisation of Air Botswana saying it has seriously affected them as they cannot plan their future or borrow money from banks.

Chairperson of Air Botswana Employees Union Chairman, Violet Chibane, said that workers' marriages and relationships have also been affected as they live in perpetual stress and anxiety due to the uncertainty of their future. "There is no financial institution willing to lend us money because of this issue and this has left most of our projects on hold."

The chairperson said that when privatisation of the airline was first mentioned, they were told that they would benefit from outsourcing of certain sections. But apart from not being consulted, Chibane said that all they received was in-house counselling. And February saw accelerated privatisation and letters informing all workers that privatisation was imminent.
