A tenacious charity led by volunteers who campaign for global equality and serious development have produced a documentary entitled Damned by Debt Relief. Having already caused a stir and hit the headlines on BBC News 24 it is now touring the country with screenings and debates which seek to set the facts straight on last year’s Live8-G8 debt relief jamboree.
Shot in Ghana, the film provides telling testimony from the people that count yet are rarely see on TV. Eloquent and angry Ghanaians from all walks of life cut through the spin of Blair & Co’s G8 deal to reveal that debt relief provides no new money, yet enforces worse than colonial conditions on Ghanaian development and spending plans.
The irony is not missed on Assistant Producer and contributor De Roy Kwesi Andrew who has remarked “Next year is Ghana’s 50th anniversary of independence from colonial rule and yet still we are being treated like children.” Damned by Debt Relief is the first in a series of documentaries produced by WORLDwrite & Chew on it Productions entitled Pricking the Missionary Position.
