The African Struggle
“DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A.....?

"Do you have what it takes to be a…………..?" is an event organised by Love Africa that recently took place at Cathays High School, Cardiff. The event aims to nurture and promote a greater understanding between refugees, asylum seekers and the host community. Working towards the goal of active civil participation, positive community learning exchange and meaningful activity towards social cohesion.

More than 100 students of Cathays High School enjoyed the show and the message delivered by Themba Moyo, Chairperson of Refugee Voice Wales and Amira Bakhiet, Chairperson of Love Africa.

Themba said " Children are the future it is good to educate them about refugee and asylum seekers issues".

This celebration was a platform for refugees and asylum seekers who have talents or something to share through the following mediums:

  • Dance

  • Singing and vocal presentation

  • African Drumming

  • Poetry recital

We felt that working with Cathays High School and Rumney High school is a beneficial way of raising awareness of refugees issues within a educational setting.

"Love Africa uses arts as an international languages to communicate with children" Amira Bakhiet.

Love Africa is an organisation that help Africans refugees and asylum seekers artists living in UK to demonstrate their skills, talents and enable their participation, build confidence, facilitate self expression, celebrate diversity and connect groups.

Schools are good channels of communication and one of the ways of accessing young people who are the next generation and the hope for an inclusive future. " added Pierrot Ngadi, founder of love Africa & communication officer. If young people are well informed about refugees issues they can play a big role in supporting the refugees and asylum seekers cause and contribute to challenging the stereotypes and barriers that currently exists.
