A J Hanna, Regional Vice President UK, Ireland and Nordics for Western Union, said: “Our partnership with the MOBO Organisation will be kicked off at this year’s MOBO Awards at the Royal Albert Hall on September 20th, which we are very much looking forward to. Western Union is proud to support such a great initiative: MOBO represents the kind of grassroots activity that we are looking for because it reaches right into the heart of the communities we serve.”

“We are honoured to be associated with such an amazing brand,” Kanya King, CEO and founder of MOBO Organisation said. “I couldn’t imagine a brand with better synchronicity with our audience. Western Union is a great group of creative people, who take their grassroots community activities as seriously as we do, and we look forward to working with them in the years ahead on new and exciting initiatives.”

This support also means that Western Union will have prime sponsorship on key MOBO grass roots projects as well as a number of MOBO community & educational projects during the three year period. The sponsorship deal also provides further opportunities including the Title Sponsorship of MOBO Africa and South Africa Awards 2007.

Western Union’s title sponsorship of the MOBO Awards is the latest example of the company’s association with the African, Caribbean and Asian communities having previously sponsored the Notting Hill Carnival and smaller community events. These sponsorships reinforce Western Union’s on-going commitment to the individual communities it serves while also highlighting its pledge to bring different cultures together – something Western Union does everyday through its money transfer service.

The MOBO Awards, now in its eleventh year, has grown from strength to strength from its ‘kitchen table’ inception to becoming the leading black awards show in Britain. It was conceived to ensure that the then neglected urban music scene in the UK was elevated and represented on a high profile, global stage. Over the past decade, the MOBO Awards has become a vital part of the entertainment calendar, attracting such leading international artists such as Destiny’s Child, Janet Jackson, Diddy, Tina Turner, 50 Cent, Jay Z in addition to profiling the stellar talent that the UK offers such as Lemar, Jamelia, Sade and Sway.
