DESMOND'S is the awardwinning smash-hit sitcom from the early 1990s that follows the hilarious goings-on at Desmond Ambrose's neighbourhood barbershop, The barber shop Desmond's is the centre of social life in the south London district of Peckham; where the clientele come to laugh, to cry, to philosophies, to play dominoes, and occasionally to get a hair cut - regardless, the results are always side splittingly funny.
Written by Trix Worrell and produced by Humphrey Barclay and Charlie Hanson, the new release features all six episodes from the original first series: "The French Lesson", "Short and Curlies", "The New Stylist", "Aunty Susu", "Porkpie's Birthday", and "Sweetsticks' Funeral" as well as 50 minutes of exclusive DVD extra material.
The barbershop's motley crew is led by cantankerous West Indian barber Desmond Ambrose (Norman Beaton), his clever wife Shirley (Carmen Munroe), and their children, yuppie banker Michael, and teenagers Sean and Gloria. Joining the family are regular visitors African Matthew and the lovably eccentric Porkpie, named after his trademark hat, as well as a troupe of other local characters who always keep Desmond's bursting with laughter.
Desmond's wry humour delighted audiences for more than 70 episodes until the series' end in 1994. Now Desmond's is available on DVD, and the chance to relive the crazy days of the muchloved Peckham barbershop has arrived!
