Where Has Samantha Mumba Gone?
|

|
IS IT just me who has realised that Samantha Mumba, the Ugandan- Irish pop/R&B singer known for her 2000 album ‘Gotta Tell You’ and singles such as ‘Baby, Come Over (This Is Our Night)’, ‘Lately’ and ‘I’m Right Here’ has disappeared off the face of the earth?
In the period of 2000- 2002 Samantha Mumba was one of the leading pop/R&B females in the UK, known for her catchy pop-R&B songs, urban style with a voice that sounded richer than most teen singers and the added American-accent.
Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1983, the half Ugandan half Irish teen sensation dropped out of school when she was 17 to produce her first album, which contains musical styles that sound like they were generated by someone much older. School itself was a great preparation for her musical career, however, because Mumba attended Dublin's Billie Barry Stage School from the time she was three to 15 it provided her with the beginnings of her education in showbiz.
In 2000 she released her debut album on Interscope entitled ‘Gotta Tell You’ which featured heavy pop production and an aggressive, frank style which helped set her apart from the sea of teen stars around at the time.
Following her success in the UK Mumba then went on to do bigger and brighter things such as landing her first film role in the 2002 film ‘The Time Machine’, co-starring Guy Pearce and Directed by Gore Verbinski and Simon Wells.
But four years later where the likes of Jamelia, Beverly Knight, and Terry Walker have continued their careers in the music industry she seems to have fallen off the music industry radar, the question you might be asking is where is she now and what is she doing on this very long hiatus?
Sources tell me that the pop/R&B singer was dropped by her label which explains why she hasn’t released any new material or has rarely been seen in the press or at any major music events.
With such a quick and unexpected exit from the music industry you’re left to wonder if she’ll ever return and try a second shot at the music industry game…..
If she does decide to make a comeback let’s hope it’s a strong one.
