Mr John Christensen, an economist who is also the director of Tax Justice Network (taxjustice.net) has said Britain and other world leading economies are as corrupt as any of the corrupt African governments.
Delivering a paper at the Royal Geographical Society annual conference, Mr Christensen urged the world to treat the corruption issue in a holistic manner. "The elephant in the living room of the corruption debate is the role played by the global infrastructure of banks, legal and accounting businesses, tax havens and related financial intermediaries in providing an offshore interface between the illicit and the licit economies".

to Gay Lesbian conference in Ghana

The government of Ghana has banned the organising and hosting of a Gay and Lesbian conference in Ghana. The Conference, which had been scheduled for Accra in the third week of September was to have been attended by Gays and Lesbians from all over the world.
In a statement signed by Mr Kwame Bartels, Minister of Information and National Orientation, They government indicated that "Government would like to make it absolutely clear that it shall not permit the proposed conference of International Gays and Lesbians to take place anywhere in Ghana….Government does not and shall not condone any such activity which violently offends the culture, morality and heritage of the entire people of Ghana," he added.

The United States congratulates the Government of Nigeria, President Obasanjo, and the Nigerian people on their continued support to promote democracy in Nigeria by calling for national elections in 2007. The decision to resolve the third term debate through constitutional means is a victory for democracy and the rule of law and provides a strong foundation for a peaceful and transparent election.
