In the Corner
with Winston Mckenzie

Hi. My name is Winston McKenzie, a former Amateur/Professional Boxer.

I won 5 Surrey Schools Titles, and an All England National Federation of Boys Clubs Title, Senior Level. Desperate to emerge from the shadows of my Brother Clinton, I declined the opportunity to represent England at the Montréal Olympic Games, and turned professional. I realised my worst nightmare. I was sidelined for most of my professional career with serious eye injuries, and sadly never fulfilled the promise shown as Amateur Champion in the Professional ranks.

Brothers Clinton and Duke, and the late Dudley McKenzie, achieved many great feats between them, as National, European and World Champions.

Over recent years I have immersed myself in charity and community work, specialising in motivational lectures in schools across Greater London, also addressing disaffected youth and children attending Pupil Referral Units. I focus on sport at all levels, and through my own Charity have established The Croydon Youth Games, a mini- Olympic-style competition for the children of Greater London, aged 11-18 years, including a vast Youth Work Experience Programme training over 200 pupils annually to run this entire competition themselves.

I have become deeply embroiled with political aspirations, though have recently distanced myself from the Conservative Party in my pursuit to become London's next Mayor.

I see the job of Mayor of London as a tremendous Host to it's inhabitants and visitors, and to the strategic overseeing of plans to run it's infrastructure. To be the Visionary for a better future for our great International City, and above all, to treat our residents with dignity and respect, not to treat them as a bottomless pit for stealth taxes and cheap labour.

My heart-felt concern for the families bereaved by the terrible atrocities of gun and knife crime, goes without saying.

I shall major on crime, create out-ofschool activities for our youth, and enlighten Ministers of the plight of disproportionate numbers of black citizens contained under the Mental Health Act.

I will also take into account London's Congestion Charge. I shall phase out bendy buses, and heavily press for Crossrail to lighten the load of commuter travel.

Whilst pressing on with house building schemes, I shall encourage families to settle and live a good life further afield in our many beautiful villages and bustling communities across Great Britain. We must now forget desperately building on the flood plains.

I am openly seeking the support of you, the readers, highlighting your charities and pressing issues. As citizens we must all participate in the fundamental political issues that concern us, and fight for change.

You may wish to contribute a donation to help support my challenge. All offers of help or sponsorship are welcome.

God bless you all.

WINSTON McKENZIE (A Leading Candidate for the Office of Mayor of London)
