Councillor Afolasade Bright

Councillor Bright has served as a Councillor for Haggerston Ward since 2002. She was Deputy Speaker of Hackney Council in 2005-2006 and Chair of the Hackney Labour Group in 2004-2005.

Cllr Bright was born in Nigeria where she had her early education which she continued in Britain. She is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and holds an LLB (Hons) and Masters in Employment and Human Resources Management. She is a goal-oriented HR practitioner with records of achievement in corporate governance, human resources development and community cohesion.

Amongst her many other commitments within Hackney, Cllr Bright chairs meetings of the full Council, and sits on the Standards Committee and Licensing Committee. She is a trustee and non-executive Director of KICC, an Honorary President of Age Concern Hackney, a Director of Hackney Homes, an Associate Governor of Gayhurst School, and has served on a number of Housing and Regeneration Partnership Boards.

A devout Christian, Afolasade has lived in Hackney for over 13 years, is married and the proud mother of three children.
