A letter to my folks By Pearl Ashia

Hello again people, today is a brand new day. The Lord has made it so put away all your worries and smile like you mean it.
I tell you what, you won't believe what a smile can do in somebody's day. I was coming home from a job interview one afternoon with a long face and my tail between my legs when I met this Jamaican man wearing dreadlocks. He was riding a bike and singing Culture's Riverside in such high spirits. He screeched to a halt when he saw me at the bus
stop looking all gloomy and miserable. And then he said to me, beaming with a big smile; "wha go'an african sister, put a smile on ya face. Don't let Babylon get you down" As he rode away, humming to himself, feeling all relaxed and happy, I asked myself; wouldn't the world be a stress-free place if everyone had this Jamaican man's spirit.
Troubles, worries and frustrations are a part of human life but we can shed this load off our shoulders. Have a laugh people, don't wait for someone to chat you up before you begin a conversation. Smile and say your hellos even as you meet strangers.
Be ready to help those who are in need. Offer your seat to that wrinkly old woman who can barely stand on her feet, open doors for people. Make good use of the 3 magic words; PLEASE, THANK YOU AND SORRY.
I believe that even in this troubled world one can still create their own paradise by just following the simple rules in life and being themselves.
Ever heard of the Kiswahili phrase? HAKUNA MATATA? It means no worries. I have chosen this as my philosophy and that is why I walk on the wild side.
I know y'all folks have your problems but keep smiling 'cause for all you know, it could have been worse.
Can I use this opportunity just say hello to my aunt; Mrs. Doris Nortey of Battersea, Marcus Nortey, Mr.Nortey of Quand & co, my very good friend Bra Laryea, Mr. and Mrs.Atta-Frempong and their kids and then most of all to the most important man in my life. You mean the world to me, babe.
And then of course to Mr. Isaac Amo-Kyereme and his crew from African Echo.
Stay blessed and catch you again next week.
