Is God fair?
by Stephen Owusu Ansah

We bring you the concluding part of Stephen Owusu Ansah’s artcle about whether God is fair?

Why are you still thinking about devastation and disasters without thinking about your destiny?

Fate, not God, sends us the problem. When we try to deal with it, we find out that we are not strong. We are weak: we get frustrated. We get tired.

We get angry. We are crushed and overwhelmed. We begin to wonder how we will ever make it through all the years. But when we reach the limits of our strength and courage, something unexpected happens. Bang! We find reinforcement coming from a source outside of ourselves. And in the knowledge that we are not alone, God is on our side, we manage to go on.

We must understand that God has created a world in which many more good things happen than bad things. Life disasters are very upsetting not only because they are painful but because they are exceptional.

Some planes crash and people die, other planes land safely. A plane crashes, people perish but others walk free. I heard your anguishing question.

What after all is the sense of a religion? It is difficult to imagine that there is a beauty in our sufferings. The Talmud, the compilation of discussions of Jewish Law, gives examples of bad prayers, improper prayers which should not be said. For the Jewish, when a woman is pregnant, either she or her husband should not pray “May God grant that this child is a boy or a girl” or when a man sees a fire engine racing toward his neighbourhood, he should not pray “please God, don’t let the fire be in my house”. The Jewish feel that this is not only cruel but useless.

A house is already on fire. The most sincere or articulate of prayers will not affect the question of which house it is.

In suffering and in despair, it seems to me that the most acceptable prayer is to pray to God for courage, for strength to bear the unbearable, for the grace to redeem what you have instead of whey you have lost. This is the essence of religion. In all religions, such prayers would find commitment, more strength, and more courage.

Disaster would come. What matters is how we deal with such calamities. What makes God so real is that when we pray for strength, hope and courage, we find abundant resources of strengths, hope and courage. This is the essence of God We painfully remember the recent atrocities all over the world. Life is not fair. Innocent people get killed. Innocent people get robbed. Some sick individuals plan to bomb and destroy human life. Where is God?

Well, He is still alive and watching from a distance. God, by His own divine wisdom, plants in us a little bit of His own divine outrage at injustice and oppression just as He did for the prophets in the Bible. We are right to get angry at such catastrophes in the world. Our response to life’s cruelty and unfairness with sympathy and with righteous indignation, with God's compassion and God’s anger working through us, we see the surest proof of God’s reality.

The world is bitterly cold. The world is not perfect. But instead of looking outward at the imperfect world, unfair places, unholy churches for answer, why don’t you take a journey inside yourself to access your capacity and potential for loving one another.

We depend on God for all things. God depends on man for one thing. Your love for Him and one another. Without man’s love, God does not exist. God does not want to command your love. He wants you to display it freely. The proof of love is the investment of time.

We must now come to the table to dine in love. We must forgive God for not making a perfect, better world. Forgive the world for not being perfect but reach little higher for people and express your love to them. Reach a little higher for Jesus is there and go on living despite the pain in the world.

Lets us forgive one another despite the hurt and disappointment. We are still living on earth. Let us forgive the earth for not being perfect Men do not drown by falling in the water but by staying there. One seasoned writer has said that you will only be remembered in life for two things- the problems you solve or the ones you create. Please get up and do something for humanity.

The world is not perfect but God is good. Greatness is not the absence of a flaw, but the survival of your flaw. We must now learn to grow our faith. Faith teaches humility. Men and women can be compassionate without faith, but faith often inspires compassion. Human beings can love without faith, but faith is a great teacher of love.

The kingdom of God thrives on reward system. Let us set our minds to do the right thing, because what you make happen for others God will make happen for you.

When the blindness has been removed from mankind, we shall come to see how much better God’s way is. We will then fully understand the righteousness and fairness of God.

Then we shall surely understand that God is fair. If God sends people to hell, it is because they have prepared to go there, not because God is unfair.

With your heart, choose your destination and your mind will create the plan. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. The sun will shine again. Let us learn to live in harmony. Love one another and you shall see the wisdom of God.l From the kitchen of my mum, Awo Yaa , may you come to see the wisdom in the righteousness of God. Be wise.

Embrace your future with total abandonment, joy and full excitement that tomorrow is going to be the best season of your life Peace be unto you.
